From Madrid to Rome: Sara of Teconlene

Hi everybody!

This week we're going to meet an amazing graphic designer: Teconlene. I really love her beautiful illustrations, they speak about an imaginary world which everybody would like to visit I think...

1. Tell us about yourself.

My name is Sara Olmos, I am a Spanish graphic designer, I live in Rome and I work doing what I love: playing with images and ideas in order to gear and transform them in small visual puzzles. Nowadays I'm developing a series of illustrations called “Le petit monde” (Little World) inhabited by characters who interact with objects out of scale, that allows me to explore new meanings and relationships between them everyday.

2. Where does your inspiration come from?

I think my most important source of inspiration comes from travels, seeing new places brings me a refreshing and renewed way to look. Books are also perfect secret places where find new ideas.

3. How would you describe your creative process?

The first and the most important thing is to find the idea, the inspiration. Once I've found what I want to say, I do some sketches on paper to set the composition of the elements which compose the illustration and then I begin with the computer process. I work with PhotoShop and Illustrator, creating and superposing layers from the first general shapes until to define little by little all the details.

4. What are your plans for the near future?

I am always thinking about new projects. In the near future I would like to have enough time to put some of them in action. :)

5. When did you find out your creativity skills?

Since I was a child I loved to live in my imaginary world, I suppose I've learned to build it since then.

6. Do you have a favorite item among yours?

Not really, I think the last creation is always my favorite but I have to confess that all the little animals born from my clay have a special place in my memories.

7. Do you have a favorite quote? If yes, what is?

Maybe one that I try to keep in mind from Pablo Picasso: “Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working.”

An American in..Berlin: Kristina of Kein Schmetterling

Hi everybody!
Today we're going to meet Kristina, a very talented stylist. I really love the brocade that she uses for her wonderful clothes. I think she deserves to realize her goal: the Paris Fashion Week.

1. Tell us about yourself.

What can I say? I am originally from the east coast of America but now live in Berlin. I am one half of the design-duo that is kein schmetterling.

2. Where does your inspiration come from?

That is something that is rather hard to define. Inspiration can come from anywhere without you really being aware that is has crept into your subconscious. Books, movies, art, fashion, history, music, conversations. You name it. Everything can be inspiration. Even simply being discontent with how things look or feel or fit can lead to something new.

3. How would you describe your creative process?

Chaotic!
In my opinion creative process is far to ephemeral to define.
A painter friend of mine loves to say "Kunst ist Kampf" which translates to "Art is Conflict" (or battle or struggle or fight. take your pick! :) )

4. What are your plans for the near future?

So many plans! At the momennt we are thinking about moving the shop to an area with a bit more foot traffic. We have also discussed taking part in the next Paris fashion week and branching out a bit into wholesale. Ideally I would like to be able to control the production which would mean having our own small production facility. That would be great since that is where my real strengths lie. Plus I love machines!

5. When did you find out your creativity skills?

I think I am probably still finding them. A good part of making stuff is hating what you've made because it is never good enough. Unfortunately I was not taught any of these skills in any organized way. I have learned everything I know simply from doing them. Which leaves a lot which I haven't figured out yet and a lot of room for insecurity.

6. Do you have a favorite item among yours?

My favorite item is something that is still an idea. Hopefully will be part of the next collection. A small jacket with a slight frack cut in bright pink brocade. Not sure which color I will use for the lining. Doesn't sound like much but it is the piece that is most "me".

7. Do you have a favorite quote? If yes, what is?

"Who is John Galt?"

8. Where do you usually sell your items?

Meeting Dafni of La Cravatte Du Chien

Hi everybody!
Today I introduce you a very talented maker, her name is Dafni and she is Greek.

1. Tell us about yourself.
My name is Dafni. I come from Greece but I live in Bahrain since the past half year, following my love. I studied graphic design and illustration. I worked as a graphic designer for many years, until the crisis came and I lost my job about two years ago. Making jewelry is my full time job now and to be honest I love it ten times better!

2. Where does your inspiration come from?
I get my inspiration from our world, which is full of beauty. I love animals and nature, these are what most of my items are all about!

3. How would you describe your creative process?
It's very similar to metalsmithing. It is the same process, except the fire part, and I use the same tools. I have to make the design, cut it, fine it, put the ink and colors, varnish and glue the metal parts in the end. Then comes the photographing part, which takes me a long time to improve it.

4. What are your plans for the near future?
I plan to stay in Bahrain for one more year, of course I'll visit my beautiful Greece in the summer. I don't know what the next destination will be. It depends on my boyfriend's job. But making jewelry is a job I can take with me everywhere, so one thing is for sure. I'm not stopping!

5. When did you find out your creativity skills?
I think since forever. My mother makes pottery and my father makes sculptures, so creativity and art were like bread and milk to me. I grew up with those things and since I remember I wanted to be an artist.

6. Do you have a favourite item among yours?
I change from time to time. Usually when I come up with a new design it becomes my favourite one. At the moment is the Cat necklace:

Oggi vi presento una creativa molto talentuosa, si chiama Dafni ed è greca.

1. Raccontaci di te.

Mi chiamo Dafni, vengo dalla Grecia ma vivo nel Bahrain da quasi un anno per seguire il mio amore. Ho studiato grafica e illustrazione. Ho lavorato come grafica per diversi finchè non ho perso il mio lavoro a causa della crisi circa due anni fa. Creare gioielli adesso è il mio lavoro a tempo pieno e ad essere sincera mi piace molto di più!
2. Da dove prendi ispirazione?
Mi ispiro al mondo in cui viviamo, pieno di bellezza. Amo gli animali e la natura e le mie creazioni riguardano soprattutto quello.
3. Come descriveresti il tuo processo creativo?
E' molto simile alla lavorazione del metallo. E' lo stesso processo, tranne la parte in cui si usa il fuoco, e uso gli stessi strumenti. Devo fare un disegno, tagliarlo It is the same process, except the fire part, and I use the same tools. I have to make the design, cut it, mettere l'inchiostro e i colori, verniciare e incollare le parti in metallo alla fine. Poi viene la parte fotografica che mi richiede molto tempo per migliorarla.
4. Quali sono i tuoi progetti per il futuro?
Penso di stare in Bahrein per un altro anno, naturalmente visiterò la mia bellissima Grecia la prossima estate. Non so quale sarà la prossima meta, dipende dal lavoro del mio fidanzato ma creare gioielli è un lavoro che posso fare ovunque, questo è sicuro.
5. Quando hai scoperto le tue capacità creative?
Penso da sempre. Mia madre lavora la ceramica e mio padre fa lo scultore quindi la creatività e l'arte erano il mio pane quotidiano. Sono cresciuta così e ricordo che ho sempre voluto fare l'artista.
6. Hai una creazione preferita tra le tue?
Cambio di periodo in periodo. In genere quando creo un nuovo disegno diventa il mio preferito. Ora è la collana con il gatto.
7. Hai una fase preferita? Se sì, qual è?
"Niente panico. Organizzati."

During the last weekend there was a nice event in my city, the event name was "Chocolate" and the biggest square of the city (where you can find the famous Arena http://www.arena.it/) was full of stands from many Italian cities which sold chocolate! What a temptation!

Lo scorso weekend a Verona c'è stato "Chocolate", un evento molto bello in Piazza Bra (dove potete trovare la famosa Arena http://www.arena.it/). La piazza era piena di stand da tutta Italia che vendevano cioccolato. Che tentazione!

A weird January

It's curious, I've just decided to write about this weird January because I've just seen this beautiful picture and on the news they're talking about the same topic now!

Why is this January weird? Because it's spring here in Verona where I live...well...during the evening/night it's cold and also early in the morning but during the day it's sunny and quite warm. Anyway it's still winter and I'm going to show you some winter proposals...with a vernal touch!
